What "accredited sponsor" actually means

An accredited or standard business sponsor is a company the Department of Home Affairs has formally approved to sponsor skilled overseas workers — most commonly under the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482), Skilled Employer Sponsored (subclass 494), or Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) programs.

Approval doesn't guarantee a job offer or a visa — it simply confirms the business has passed the Department's sponsorship checks and is legally able to nominate someone for one of these visas. Sponsors can also be revoked or lapse, so treat this list as a starting point, not a live registry.

This directory turns a scanned, 129-page government PDF into something you can actually search in seconds.

How to use this list

  • Job seekers — check whether a company you're applying to (or already work for) is approved to sponsor before you get too far into the process.
  • Employers & HR teams — confirm your own listed status, or benchmark against similar organisations in your industry.
  • Education & migration clients — use it alongside advice from a registered agent to plan a realistic sponsorship pathway.
  • Not on the list? That's normal — many employers sponsor without appearing here, or approvals may post-date this FOI snapshot.
