Why Should I Study Abroad?

by Fahad Shamim / Thursday, 04 February 2021 / Published in Education Blog
Study Abroad

Studying and living in a foreign country had always been appealing for students, but What makes studying in a foreign country different from studying in home country? Is it really worthful spending a good amount for studying in a foreign university compared to the one at home country? Well, the best way to conclude the answers of these questions is by highlighting major benefits one would be reaping by studying in a foreign country.

Variety of Learning Options: –

One of the major advantages of studying abroad is that heaps of courses and training options are being offered by the Universities and colleges. Academic institutions abroad acknowledging the advancement in technologies, growing competition, globalization, environmental changes and issues, changes in job markets and consumers demands are constantly adding more courses and revising the offered courses, so a student desirous of any particular professional career can earn a degree in the related course.

Developing Personal Capabilities: –

No doubt, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world (Nelson Mandela), but, considering the challenges, growing competition and demands of the current highly volatile professional fields, academic learning alone won’t be enough for making someone the right fit for the current job market. Every student expects to start his/her professional career getting a job immediately after graduating as had dreamed of during his/her academic tenure. However, in real life situation is a bit different, unpredictable challenges are quite common in all professional segments. As such, in job interviews or in other selection procedures besides a candidate’s academic profile his/her competencies and skills are also assessed. A candidate would only be considered for the job if he/she is equipped with the skills and qualities that he/she would be needing to successfully maneuver through the challenges in future.

Travelling itself is a learning opportunity, living in a different region, interacting with the people of different mindset, beliefs and practices, learning about their working procedures and behavior, enhances one’s knowledge enabling to develop more ideas for one’s progressive future. Students studying abroad appears to be more capable of dealing with real life unpredicted challenges compared to the one’s studying in home countries. Immigrant Students throughout their academic tenure live an independent life, managing their food and living needs themselves, doing jobs, concluding solutions for pity or major issues and making their own decisions without any assistance mostly.

As such, living independently, taking own decisions, countering with the issues depending on personal traits, students become self-reliant and inadvertently develops skills and qualities that would be an effective aid for them throughout their professional career.

Social Contacts: –

Having good social contacts is undoubtedly a significant advantage for any individual to be successful in any of the life segments either, business, employment or personal.  People conduct varied activities to widen the borders of their social circle, whereas students studying abroad are generally gifted with this opportunity. Learning and living with co-students from different global regions, not only enables them to earn knowledge about the beliefs, lifestyle, and customs of different cultures but also becoming friends they develop contacts in different global regions.

Though Google is regarded as the only and best source of gathering information or data, however, having a friend from some other region would be more reliable and authentic source to get information about the job market, living conditions and people behavior. Even having social contacts in other regions would also be quite supportive if a student is planning to expand or starting a business in the country of his fellow student.

Global Recognition: –

Foreign academic institutions hosting student communities from all over the world, are by nature global institutions. Degrees and certificates awarded by these institutes are not only acknowledged by the universities and colleges across the globe, but among the professional fields as well. Hence, students passing out from foreign universities enjoys global recognition through the degrees awarded to them. Moreover, if a student wishes to continue his/her education for a higher degree like PhD, in some other country or University, on the basis the degree earned from a foreign university/college it would be easy for him/her to get enrolled. Even, applying for a job, a foreign degree is mostly preferred.

Thus, studying abroad in a foreign university or college though is a tough journey but it guarantees a long-term success not only in professional segments but in personal life as well.
