University of Sydney: Overview

Known to be among the world’s top universities, the University of Sydney is an open-research university established in 1850. Queen Victoria granted the institution a Royal Charter in 1858, making the degrees gained there equal to those offered by universities in the United Kingdom. The University of Sydney was founded on two fundamental principles: academic merit-based admissions and religious tolerance. USYD has a long history that covers many aspects of Australian intellectual, scientific, and socio-political life. In the 170 years since its establishment, the university has become more progressive and falls in the top 50 of the world’s best universities according to the QS World University Ranking 2023.

The university is associated with Group of Eight, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and many more.

University of Sydney: Campus

Camper Down Campus is the main campus of the university which was constructed by Edmund Blacket in Neo-Gothic design and is known to be one of the most beautiful universities in the world. The campus has the Faculty of Science, Pharmacy, Arts, Economics, Social Work, Architecture and Veterinary Science.

The campus is in Sydney which is known for its vibrant and colourful nightlife, food and culture. The students get to spend a great life in this lively and beautiful place.

University of Sydney: Acceptance Rate for International Students

The acceptance rate for international students at the University of Sydney is around 30% which means out of every 100 students that got into University of Sydney, 30 are international students.

University of Sydney: Eligibility Criteria

The most important thing when applying to a university is to know its eligibility criteria. Every university has different requirements for every course, so it is very important to check them beforehand. Below we have compiled the general requirements that international students need in order to be eligible for admission to USYD.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

  • International students are required to have completed their high school at a recognized college or school with good grades.
  • English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL iBT: 96
  • PTE: 68

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

  • Students are required to have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Some courses might require GMAT or GRE scores
  • English Language Requirements:
  • IELTS (Academic): 7.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 96
  • PTE: 68

Application Fee

The non-refundable application cost of AU$125 for international students. If they need financial support, students can ask to have their fees waived.

Admission Intake and Deadline

There are two-semester intakes for aspiring students to apply:

  • February Intake (Deadline: January end)
  • August Intake (Deadline: June end)

(The deadline may vary depending on the courses so check the website to avoid any issues.)

University of Sydney: Tuition Fees

International students have a choice of various courses which have different fees associated with them. The estimated course fee for undergraduate and postgraduate are as follows

Undergraduate Tuition Fees: AU$40,500 to AU$55,000

Postgraduate Tuition Fees: AU$38,500 to AU$71,000

Post Research Program: AU$39,000 to AU$49,000

(Fee may vary depending on the course and the year)

The indicative fees mentioned above are based on 48 credit points or one year’s full-time equivalent study load for students who will start their year 1 in 2023. For an accurate and specific course fee please refer to the course page.
