University of Montreal Overview
Also referred to as The Université de Montréal, the University of Montreal was founded in 1878 as a satellite campus of the University of Laval. Located in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the university was granted a city charter by the Legislative Assembly of Quebec in 1920 and was given the name Université de Montréal. It is a publicly funded research university and is regarded as one of Canada’s top research universities.
In 1967, the university formed a standing committee to assess the requirements of female students and improve women’s status on campus. The university is proudly Canadian, and French is the medium of instruction.
Accomplishment
One of the most important components of education at the University of Montreal is research, it ranks 4th in the country in terms of volume of its research activities. It is also a member of U15, a group that consists of 15 Canadian research universities. The annual research income is $500 million annually which makes it one of the foremost research hubs in Canada.

Campuses of the University of Montreal
The University of Montreal consists of seven campuses.
Montreal is the main campus of the University of Montreal and is situated on the north slope of Mount Royal and is home to programs in a range of disciplines. The campus comprises more than 65 hectares of land and have40 buildings and is served by three metro stations.
The MIL Campus
The MIL Campus is located in the heart of the city and is home to the Science Complex, where research and teaching activities are conducted for the departments of chemistry, physics, biology and geography.
Laval
Since 2011, the University of Montreal has been present in the heart of the Cité du Savoir, Laval. The camps offer complete programs in health and education and services that are specially designed for their students.
The Saint-Hyacinthe Campus
The Saint-Hyacinthe Campus is located in the Monteregie region and is home to the University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It is the only veterinary school in the province. Aside from the key program which is the Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, the campus also offers several other undergraduate and graduate programs.
Mauricie
Mauricie campus is located in Trois-Rivieres, offers medical students an exceptional experience and is the first decentralised campus in Canada where students can complete their entire medical training.
Longueuil
Longueuil campus is located right next to the metro station in Place-Charles-Le Moyne. The campus offers a chance to study in a variety of fields, especially social science and intervention.
Lanaudière
The services offered by UdeM in Lanaudière are designed to meet regional needs and requests. Most of the courses offered at the campus are in the graduate program in leadership and management of educational institutions.

University of Montreal: Undergraduate Admission
As most of the programs are taught in French at the University of Montreal, proficiency in the French language is an important component in order to secure admission to an undergraduate program.

French Language Proficiency Requirements
As most of the courses are offered in French, students are required to submit proof of their French language proficiency in order to get admission.
- Minimum of B2 French proficiency. However, some programs may require a higher level and it is advised that students check the program website.
- Students can also appear for the Quebec Ministry of Education’s college-level French exam.
The test should be taken at least 18 months prior to the start of the program in order to have sufficient time for obtaining results.

There are some programs that are taught in English and these are mostly all doctorate programs in Biochemistry, Virology and some master’s degree in Law and business etc. We have listed the basic admission requirement below. Economy and Politics
The program offered by the university trains the students in two disciplines, economics and politics, that occupy a prominent place in modern society. This program focuses on both the disciplines and their essential perspective and also allows students to acquire basic knowledge about the techniques for analyzing economic, political and administrative behaviors.
Computer Science
The specialized degree in computer science focuses on promoting innovation and the fundamental aspects of computer science. The courses are based on a common core in theoretical bases, programming and mathematics. Nursing
