University of Cambridge Overview

The University of Cambridge was founded decades ago in 1206, it is the second oldest university in the UK and also the world’4th oldest surviving university in the entire world. It is famous not only for being the birthplace of the famous sports football but it is considered a pilgrimage centre for researchers and education aspirants. And that is the reason why Cambridge often ranks among the world’s top universities for teaching, research and international perspectives. Recently the university managed to climb up to rank 3rd from 7th under the QS World University Rankings 2021.

The university is a self-governing community of scholars and it is one of the world’s leading educational institutions.  It is affiliated with Russell Group, European University (EUA), G5 Universities, Gold Triangle, League of European Research Universities (LERU), International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) and Universities UK.

Alumni

You can get how good a university is just by looking at its alumni. Influential mathematicians, scientists, politicians, lawyers, philosophers, writers, actors and heads of state have all attended the university. it is also associated with Ninety-eight Nobel Laureates and 15 British Prime Ministers and some of the most notable names are, Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, John Milton, Stephen Hawking, Bertrand Russel, Emma Thompson, David Attenborough and A.A. Milne.

Infrastructure and Campus

The University of Cambridge is located in the centre of the ancient city of Cambridge, it is a public research institution that serves over 18,000 students from all around the world. Cambridge is divided into 31 colleges. All colleges are self-governing which means that applications are submitted directly to the college, rather than to the university overall.

University of Cambridge Admission Requirements

To get into the University of Cambridge one needs to fulfill some requirements that the university will consider you for being a part of the university. Some of the basic requirements are listed down below:

Required Documents

  • All academic transcripts
  • Passport size photographs
  • Photocopy of passport
  • CV/Resume
  • English language proficiency test scores
  • Letter of recommendations
  • Statement of Purpose.

Academic Requirements

Entry requirements can be different for different courses, so check the course you are applying for to see if you are eligible for it or not.

Undergraduate Programs

Applicants should have grades at a very high level in relevant subjects.

CBSE 5 or more A1 grades in relevant subjects
CISCE or NIOS  90% or higher in five or more relevant subjects 
Other Boards 95% or equivalent in five or more relevant subjects

Postgraduate Programs

The applicant is required to have a Professional Bachelor’s in professional subjects from a good institution with an overall grade of:

  • 70%-%75
  • CGPA3 – 8.0

MBA Programs

You must have an excellent 2:1 Honours degree in the UK grading system or an equivalent grade from a recognized institution to pursue an MBA at Cambridge.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language then you must submit your English language score to prove your proficiency in it through any of the following mentioned tests:

Tests Minimum Scores
IELTS 7.5 overall grade, with 7.0 or above in each element
TOEFL iBT 110 overall score, with 25 or above in each element

GMAT Requirements

For MBA you need to have at least two years of work experience and a minimum GMAT score of 700.

Undergraduate Application Process

Like most universities in the UK, you will apply to Cambridge through UCAS. You will find a detailed guide about UCAS here.

Postgraduate Application Process

If you are applying for a postgraduate program, then you will directly apply to the university. you can register yourself here.

Application Processing Fee

The undergraduate application processing fee is £60 most students are required to pay this amount.

The postgraduate application processing fee is £75. If you are a resident of a low-income country, you may be eligible for a waiver of the application fee.

Popular Programs for International Students

Natural Science

The program offered by Cambridge offers a wide range of physical and biological science subjects from 16 departments in a unique and demanding course. The natural science program allows students to experience new areas of science and also helps identify and discover the interconnections between apparently discrete subjects. Medicine

Cambridge provides students with two medicine programs and throughout the course, the main aim is to educate students to become compassionate, thoughtful, skilled members and leaders of the medical profession. Engineering
