University of Adelaide: Overview

The University of Adelaide is a world-class research and teaching institution. Founded in 1874, the University of Adelaide is home to a thriving community that strives to make an impact. It is a university of excellent quality, ranked in the top 1% worldwide and recognized among the world’s top 100 universities in 23 different disciplines. As a member of a prestigious group of eight research-intensive universities, ranked number one in South Australia for graduate employability.

The university recognizes exceptional people as one of its greatest assets. Adelaide University has more than 100 Rhodes Scholars. 

Renowned for its history graduates, the University of Adelaide’s alumni include 5 Nobel Prize winners, Australia’s first female Prime Minister and the first Australian astronaut to walk in space. The university has a long list of influential alumni and staff in various fields.

University of Adelaide: Campus

It has six campuses across the state. The university’s main campus is located in North Terrace, in central Adelaide, adjacent to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum and the State Library of South Australia. Its sixth campus, Ngee Ann – Adelaide Education Center (NAAEC), is in Singapore. The university has several affiliated and independent research institutes and groups.

University Of Adelaide: Acceptance Rate For International Students

The University of Adelaide is one of the prestigious institutions in the world which is known for its quality of education, variety of courses and much more. So this institution is very selective in admissions. The University of Adelaide shares a diverse community with over 100 countries represented on campus. According to statistics, international students make up 31% of students at the University of Adelaide.

Most of the international students at the university are from the People’s Republic of China and India.

The overall acceptance rate at the University of Adelaide is 75%. With more than 9,000 students from more than 100 countries currently at the University of Adelaide, international students get a fair share of the school’s acceptance rate.

University of Adelaide: Admission Requirements

The University of Adelaide recognizes and accepts several international qualifications as requirements for admission to undergraduate programs and postgraduate programs. Each program has its own specific entry requirements that must be met before a student is admitted. Information required for international student admission into the University of Adelaide is detailed below.

University of Adelaide Undergraduate Admissions:

The following are the academic requirements for undergraduate admissions:

  • Minimum 85% in Class XII 
  • Academic Transcripts (original language and certified English translations)
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Resume
  • Passport

University of Adelaide Graduate Admissions:

The University Of Adelaide South Australia offers master’s programs for students of various students including accounting and management, performing arts, science, etc. All master’s level programs have different eligibility criteria. The entry periods for master’s programs are February and July.

The following are the academic requirements for postgraduate admissions:

  • Bachelors in relevant field
  • Minimum 60% to 75% for Bachelor
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • ENT

English Language Requirements:

The university’s preferred accredited English language tests are:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) – Academic Test
  • TOEFL – internet-based and paper-based
  • Pearson Test of English – Academic
  • CAE (Cambridge English: Advanced)

However, in individual cases, the university can also recognize other documents about English proficiency. Most language tests and qualifications that meet the university’s minimum requirements in English are valid for two years before the start date.

Students without the required level of English will be required to satisfactorily complete an intensive English language program prior to admission to the University of Adelaide. The University can provide a suitable English language program, the Academic English (PEP Pathway) in Adelaide at the University’s English Language Centre. The PEP Pathway provides an alternative entry route for prospective students who have received offers to the University of Adelaide conditional on English proficiency. Upon successful completion of the PEP Pathway at the appropriate level, students are granted direct entry to university. 

University of Adelaide: Application Process

Below is a step-by-step guide to completing the University of Adelaide application. However, before you start your application, check the entry requirement for the degree you intend to study at the University of Adelaide.

  • Apply through SATAC

You can apply to the University of Adelaide through the SATAC application website. Some of the programs offered at the University of Adelaide have additional entry requirements. Before starting the application, make sure that your selected program has an additional input requirement.

  • Check or Make Edits

On the SATAC website, you can change preferences through the My Apps section. You can remove or add preferences to the application.

  • Check Admission Offer

The degree you want to study at the University of Adelaide should be your first preference. If you need help, you can always contact an advisor at the University of Adelaide.

  • Accept Your Offer

After completing the application, you will receive an email with an offer. However, if the offer you received is not to your preference, you will need to log in to the SATAC website and respond to the dates provided in your email offer.

  • Prepare to Attend

Once you have accepted your offer, you will receive an email from the University of Adelaide with important details. The email will contain your new University ID number.

Application Fee:

The application fee for undergraduate and post-graduate programs is 110 AUD.

The University of Adelaide offers scholarships to international undergraduate and postgraduate students. With the help of these scholarships, international students with excellent academic results from their previous studies will have their tuition fees reduced by a certain percentage.

  • Global Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Global Academic Excellence Scholarship is for international undergraduate and postgraduate students with excellent academic results in their previous studies.

If awarded, this scholarship will reduce the student’s tuition by 50%.

  • Global Citizen Scholarship

The Global Citizen Scholarship offers tuition fee reductions of 15% and 30% for international undergraduate and graduate students who have achieved academic merit in their studies.
