Career Opportunities in UK
Data from UK Labor Economic Survey suggest that almost 20 job roles will be high in-demand, in the next decade. As automation takes hold, the routine based roles will shrink to great extent. The carers and coders are among fastest growing occupation, with women great at risk of losing jobs than men. The individuals in high-touch or high-tech job such as those of nurses, teachers and carers have sufficient reasons to be positive in context of career opportunities and future of work.
It may be a little surprising to know that software developers and programmers were the fastest growing occupation but with more than 160,000 new positions created, the high tech roles are predicted to emerge in the later 2020s. It is because the technology base companies are looking beyond their traditional remits to disrupt other sectors of finance and healthcare. There will be an increase in jobs such as elementary school teachers, nurses, care workers, fuelled by ageing population and changing demographics. The introduction of algorithms and machines in workplace will create around 133 million new roles, while dislocating around 75 million roles between the year 2018 and 2022.
The World Economic Forum estimates that demand will increase for data scientist and analysts, application and software developers, social media and e-commerce specialists. It also studies that roles which require human skills such as marketing, sales and customer service will accelerate.
Routine based roles like payroll clerks, data-entry and accounting are likely to disappear. There’s also a gender element to consider; with traditional high street jobs, such as check-out cashiers, retail-sales assistants, dry cleaners, bank and post-office clerks are at higher risk of disappearing. Almost, 300,000 high-street jobs over the past decade were held by women. Conversely, women make up less than 20% of new tech job role that have emerged.
