Studying in Australia is a dream of many international students who are looking for top-notch university and high-quality education and understanding the admission process is the crucial first step toward making this dream a reality. But it can be an overwhelming and time-consuming process that has multiple elements attached to it and each one holds significant importance. Hence, missing even one of them can lead to getting your application rejected.

This is where education consultation comes into play, making this task simpler and more manageable. In this blog, we will first explore the admission process into Australian universities and then we will dive into how an education consultant can assist you.

Factors to Consider Before Applying to Australian Universities

Australia is home to some of the top universities in the world offering a wide range of courses for international students. Multiple universities such as the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University and the University of Sydney rank among the best in the world. There are some things you should consider before applying to universities:

PR List Courses in Australia

The PR list is the courses that you can study to be qualified for post-study work opportunities as well as PR opportunities after graduating. According to recent data, there are 16 courses that are eligible for Australian PR. If obtaining PR is your end goal then you can pursue these courses:

  • Engineering
  • Computer and Information Technology
  • Automotive
  • Education and Teaching
  • Social Work
  • Cooking and Chef Course
  • Hospitality
  • Nursing and Midwife
  • Medical science
  • Building and Construction
  • Accounting
  • Dentistry
  • Psychology
  • PR Trade Courses
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Plumbing and Technician

Understanding Australia’s University Intakes and Deadline

Australia has two major intakes per year, these intakes are designed to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of international students:

  • February Intake
  • July Intake

Each university in Australia may have its specific deadline for both intakes. It is essential to check the application deadline for the universities and courses you are interested in. Generally, the application deadlines for the February intake fall between August and November of the previous year, while the deadlines for the July intake are usually between March and May of the same year.

Understanding Australian University Admissions

The process of admission starts well before you click the “Apply” button on your chosen university website. There are a number of steps involved in the process, let’s discuss them in detail:

Pre-Application Steps

Step 1: Start the Initial Research

The first step in the admission process is to start researching universities and courses you are interested in. Start researching the requirements, location, tuition fees, curriculum, placements and facilities provided by the course and universities to see if they align with your goals and values.

Step 2: Shortlisting of Courses

Now comes the part where you have a list of courses and universities and you will shortlist the ones that you believe suit you the best. We would recommend creating a spreadsheet with all the important information such as intake, tuition fees, eligibility criteria and deadline. Make sure that you are eligible, that you have all the international standardised test results and that they match the criteria of the universities you want to apply to. Generally, universities require international students to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Bachelor Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicant must have a high school diploma equivalent to Australian 12 years with a score of 65% or above in their class 12 exams
    • IELTS: a minimum score of 6.5 – 7.0
    • TOEFL: a minimum score of 60– 90
    • PTE: a minimum score of 58 – 64
  • Postgraduate Eligibility Criteria
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • English proficiency test score
    • IELTS: a minimum score of 6.5 – 7.0
    • TOEFL: a minimum score of 90
    • PTE: a minimum score of 59 – 65
  • GRE/GMAT scores (if applicable
  • Work experience (if applicable)

How Education Consultation Can Simplify the Process

Application Process: Step-by-Step Guide

The application process is a crucial step in the admission process. You need to be very careful while following these steps as every detail you fill in the application form will be used for application assessment, on the basis of this application the university will determine if they will make an offer or not.

Step 1: Registration

Every university has its personal application portal through which international applicants can apply. Create an account, enter a username and password that you can use later to log in to your account and apply for admission. Also, it is very important to note that you will need the help of an education agent to apply to Australian universities as the majority of the universities accept applications via agents.

Step 2: Submit the Required Documents and Apply

Provide the agent with all the documents that are required. They will fill in the required information by using the documents you have sent to them. The process may seem easy at first but even a little mistake can have severe consequences so getting help from an agent is the way to go!

Step 3: Pay the Application Fee

To submit the application, you will be required to pay an application fee which is usually non-refundable. International students are required to pay around AU$50 to AU$100 using a debit or credit card or there may be another mode to pay the application fee.

Step 4: Submit Documents

In this step, attach the documents that are required by the university. The requirements of supporting documents may vary from university to university and program to program but here are some common documents that you must have.

  • Academic transcripts
  • English language proficiency scores
  • Letter of recommendation
  • A valid passport
  • Statement of purpose
  • Document to prove financial competency

Make sure all your identification and academic transcripts are attested and translated into English. That’s it all that is left is to click on that “Apply” button

Step 5: Receive an Offer

You will receive an offer letter from the university, if your application is accepted by them. It could be an unconditional offer letter (indicating that you have reserved a seat in the intended course) or a conditional offer letter (indicating that you need to fulfil more requirements only then your application will be accepted). Pay attention to messages and follow instructions in the offer letter; it’s a crucial step in your academic journey.

After accepting the offer, it’s time to get ready for your journey to Australia. Make sure to get Overseas Student Health Cover, secure a Student Visa (Subclass 500), and handle other important tasks. If you seek the support of an education consultant, they can assist not only with the application but also with everything that follows.

How an Education Consultant Can Simplify the Admission Process

Education consultants play a crucial role in simplifying the admission process, acting as your knowledgeable allies throughout the journey. They know things and have knowledge about the admission process more than anyone else. This knowledge can not be completely attained by reading guides on the internet. Hence, their experience with applying to universities is needed to ensure the process is successful. Let’s talk about how an education consultant can help you to make your study abroad dream a reality:

  1. Guidance from Experts: Imagine having a personal guide who understands your aspirations. Education consultants provide insights into various courses, ensuring your academic and career goals align with your chosen program. All you need to do is tell them what your goals are, your budget and the country you are aiming to study in and they will prepare a list for you to choose from.
  2. Application Assistance: Filling out application forms can be daunting. Consultants act as your application buddies, offering assistance to ensure accuracy and minimise errors, ultimately improving your chances of acceptance. Also, it is important to note that you will need help from an education consultant at this point of the application process as most universities consider applicants that apply through education agents as we mentioned above.
  3. Understanding Requirements: Navigating admission requirements can be complex. Consultants break down these requirements, making them more understandable and guiding you through each step, resulting in a smoother application process.
  4. Document Help: Gathering and preparing necessary documents is a critical step. Education consultants act as your document wizards, providing valuable assistance in preparing materials such as transcripts, recommendation letters, GTE  and statement of purpose.
  5. Visa Support: The process of obtaining a student visa can be intricate. Consultants act as your visa sidekick, helping you navigate the application process and ensuring compliance with all regulations for a smooth journey to your chosen university.
  6. Financial Tips: Planning for tuition fees and living expenses is a significant concern. Education consultants serve as your financial friends, offering insights and advice to help you make informed decisions and budget effectively.
  7. Post-Acceptance Support: The journey doesn’t end with acceptance. Consultants continue to support you, offering assistance with pre-departure arrangements, ensuring a seamless transition into your academic adventure.

Education consultants serve as invaluable companions, simplifying the entire admission process and enhancing your overall experience as you pursue your education goals. So, what are you waiting for? If you want to study in Australia and looking for help then Edvise Hub can be your light in the dark path, they will light up your way and make sure that you reach your destination!
