The Downtown Campus is situated on 80 acres of land in downtown Montreal at the foot of Mount Royal and it started operating as an educational institution in 1829 when the first classes were held on the former estate of James McGill. Its unique location makes it a bridge between the urban and natural landscape. In 2012, Travel + Leisure mentioned a McGill’s Downtown campus as one of the 17 most beautiful university campuses in the world

MacDonald Campus

The second campus, Macdonald Campus consists of 650 hectares of land in Sainte- Anne-de-Bellevue on the western tip of the island of Montreal. It is the largest private landholding in the region and is home to over 70 buildings. The campus houses the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Science, the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition, the McGill School of Environment and the Institute of Parasitological.

Gault Nature Campus

Even though this campus is not an academic campus, the Gault Nature Reserve is considered to be an important part of McGill’s real estate portfolio. The private reserve encompasses 1000 hectares of land and is located in Mont-Saint-Hilaire. The campus supports important teaching and research activities and also a recreational sector with trails of 25 km.
