It is hard to be a full-time student and part-time employee especially when you are studying abroad, many students do not have studies to look after only when they move to another country for higher education but they have to cop up with their social life and part-time jobs as well. Student life in Australia is pretty much fun as compared to other countries and the cherry on top is that your Australian student visa allows you to work 20 hrs. /per week, which is a great way to, not only earn some extra money to spend an amazing weekend with your mates but also the best way to socialize and know locals and their culture.
Now as exciting as it sounds, it might not give you the same vibe after you probably settle in and start following the same routine. It is human nature to get bored with the work if you do it continuously. Similarly, many students who are studying abroad do get bored with their routine and lose track sometimes. It can become too much and you find it hard to focus on the main purpose you are here or too irritating to focus on the studies, and this is where you lose your motivation to keep going.
Edvise hub decided to jot down a few amazing tips that can help you stay motivated toward your goals.
Exercise Regularly:
Exercise every day because this is a great way to keep your brain and body active and a great way to release any kind of stress. As Richard Branson said, “exercise doesn’t take time, it creates time” means that exercise makes you more productive and increase your ability to work more effectively. It is also good to stay on track and keep your mind focus. Exercise does not keep you healthy and fit only but also very effective for the brain. Try to make exercise part of your routine and stick to it, focus on any physical activity that you enjoy such as jogging, cycling, running or weight lifting anything that keeps your body active and healthy.
Proper Meals:
Due to tough or busy schedule students tend to skip their meals and do not really focus on healthy eating. As junk food easily accessible and takes less time to eat, students are more drawn to it. Maintaining a healthy diet while you studying and focusing on anything help you stay active and on track.
It is said that you have to eat well to create the brain fuel that requires you to maintain concentration for a long period of time. Moreover, sometimes it becomes hard especially when you are eating low quality and low nutrition food. There are many apps that can easily track your calories and protein you need and how much you should have in a day.
Take short breaks:
When you continuously work or study your mind started to think in the same direction and here the creativity gets a block. No one is superhero and works or studies non-stop for hours. It is very common to lose track and just get tired of the same thing if you have the same routine to follow each day. Like students because of their busy academic schedule and those part-time jobs, they get exhausted and frustrated and this is where the short breaks are mostly needed.
Even when during the study you feel the stress and pressure, take 15 to 20 min break you can also take the quick nap that actually helps to boost your energy and make you even more relaxed. Go for a quick walk or just have something good to drink and then start your work again, you will feel the difference it would make in your work.
Do remember your ‘Why’
One of the easiest and quickest ways to stay motivated and on track is to always remember the purpose of doing what you are doing either its work, study or any project. There is always a reason for the thing we do. Keeping that in mind help to stay focused and active all the time.
If you start with the end goal in your mind, your “why” would have all the answers and reasons for doing what you are doing and hence it increases the motivation level. Setting short and easy goals can help you achieve the goals you dream of. Make sure that your goals are S.M.A.R.T so you can easily achieve them step by step.
Balance Everything:
Focusing on one thing and consistently trying to achieve or get it sometimes makes it even harder to achieve it. All study and no time to relax is no fun. Make sure to find balance in your life, you work hard to study well but also spend some time out, relaxing and socializing. Do things, which make you happy, play some games or just take a day off for a picnic or beach. Doing these small things really changes your life and keeps you motivated towards it.
Set a routine and manage time for both study/ work and fun this balance would definitely help you manage the ups and downs that are part of every international student’s life.
