Why Germany

A degree that costs little and travels far

Germany's public universities run on state funding rather than tuition fees, and its degrees carry weight with employers across Europe. Here's what that means for a student applying from Pakistan or India.

01

No tuition

Most public universities charge only a semester contribution (roughly €150–€350) covering admin and a transit pass — not tuition.

02

English-taught options

Hundreds of Master's programmes, and a growing number of Bachelor's, are taught fully in English — German isn't always a prerequisite to start.

03

Work while you study

International students can generally work up to 140 full or 280 half days a year, or a fixed weekly cap for part-time roles — enough to cover living costs alongside study.

04

Stay-back after graduation

Graduates can typically apply for an 18-month residence permit to search for a job matching their qualification — a real runway into the EU job market.

1

No branch visit required

Every document review, university shortlist, and application submission happens over WhatsApp, email, and video call — wherever you are in Pakistan or India.

2

One advisor, start to visa

You're not passed between departments. The person who assesses your profile is the person who prepares your application and your visa file.

3

Straight answers on eligibility

We tell you plainly if a course is a stretch, a safe bet, or not a fit — before you spend money on APS fees, testing, or a blocked account.

The Assessment

What "eligible for Germany" actually means

German universities weigh a specific set of factors differently to Australia, the UK, or the US. Your assessment checks your profile against each one before you commit to an application.

  • A
Academic percentage / CGPAMost universities set a minimum overall score, and Master's programmes expect a defined subject overlap with your Bachelor's — not just a related-sounding title.
  • B
Subject relevance for Master'sAdmissions committees check your transcript's course content, not just your degree name, for overlap with the programme you're applying to.
  • C
Work experienceRelevant for MBA-style and some applied Master's programmes — and can help offset a borderline academic score for certain courses.
  • D
Language readinessEnglish-taught programmes need IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent; German-taught ones need Goethe-Institut or TestDaF certification — or a plan to reach it.
  • E
Gaps & backlogsStudy gaps and pending papers aren't automatically disqualifying, but they need to be explained and documented correctly.

How the assessment runs

  1. You send transcripts, CV, and target field over WhatsApp or email.
  2. Your advisor benchmarks your profile against current entry thresholds for your intended course level.
  3. You get a written summary: which universities are realistic, what's missing, and what to fix first.

Country-Specific Steps

What changes if you're applying from Pakistan vs. India

Pakistan

Karachi, Lahore & Islamabad applicants

  • No APS certificate required — German universities and uni-assist verify Pakistani academic documents directly.
  • HEC attestation is typically required for degree certificates and transcripts before submission.
  • IBCC attestation applies to Matric and Intermediate certificates for Bachelor's applicants.
  • English-medium schooling can sometimes support your language case, but a recognised IELTS/TOEFL score is still usually required for English-taught programmes.
India

Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru & beyond

  • APS Certificate is mandatory for all degree-level applications, public or private, on-campus or online — no exceptions by institution type.
  • From Winter Semester 2026/27, Bachelor's applicants need a minimum 70% in Class 12 to be eligible for APS certification.
  • APS fee is ₹18,000, non-refundable, with processing of 3–4 weeks (up to 3 months in peak season).
  • TestAS applies to Bachelor's applicants without a completed undergraduate degree, unless exempt via JEE Main & Advanced.
Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need to know German before I apply? +

Not for English-taught programmes, which run into the hundreds across German public universities, especially at Master's level. You will need a recognised German certificate (Goethe-Institut or TestDaF) for German-taught programmes, and basic German helps considerably with daily life and part-time work either way.

Can the entire application really be done without visiting an office? +

Yes — profile assessment, document review, university applications, and visa file preparation are all handled over WhatsApp, email, and video call. The one step that requires you in person is the biometric appointment at the German embassy, consulate, or VFS centre for your visa.

How is the assessment different from just applying and seeing what happens? +

An assessment checks your percentage, subject overlap, and any work experience against current entry thresholds before you spend money on APS fees, testing, or a blocked account — so you apply to universities you actually have a realistic shot at, not just a list scraped off the internet.

I have a study gap or a few backlog papers — does that rule me out? +

Not automatically. Gaps and backlogs are common and can usually be explained with the right documentation and framing in your Statement of Purpose. It's exactly the kind of detail your assessment is meant to surface early, rather than at the visa stage.

What does Edvise Hub charge for this? +

The eligibility assessment and initial consultation are free. Service fees for full application and visa support are discussed transparently once your assessment is complete and you decide to proceed — ask your advisor for the current fee structure.
