What is a Blocked Account?

As Germany provides you with an opportunity to study there without any tuition fees. The German blocked bank account (Sperrkonto) is where the student aspiring to study in Germany deposits money to provide proof of financial resources for living in Germany for a year and it is a requirement when applying for a German student visa or a student residence permit. As of the 2022 winter semester, the annual requirement that must be paid into the Blocked Account when applying for a visa is 11,208 euros. (2,484,746 PKR)

How can you open a Blocked Account in Germany?

There are three ways to open a German Blocked Account, applicants use these three digital companies, Coracle, Expatrio, and Fintiba. Through these German providers, you will be able to make your Blocked Account online and in English.

We will provide you with a detailed overview of the best-Blocked Account in Germany

The young and modern company specialises in assisting students and job seekers in obtaining their German visas. With its Value Package, the website provides various perks, such as free incoming travel insurance for up to 92 days, easy sign-up for public health insurance with Techniker Krankenkasse, and a free ISIC student card for a year.

Expatrio has a very low set-up fee of 49 euros; however, they also charge 5 euros monthly service fee, which you need to deposit in advance. This means for 12 months of a Blocked Account with Expatrio will cost you 109 euros.

The Fintiba Plus package includes a Blocked Account, DAK health insurance, and free travel insurance. They also provide a Rent Deposit Guarantee, Fintiba Transfer, Language Learning Offers, and a free ISIC card for three years.

Fintiba works directly with the German Sutor Bank, unlike other Blocked Account providers that operate via financial service providers. The additional security measures are reflected in the cost, with the Blocked Account charging 89 euros for setup and 4.90 euros monthly.

As Fintiba is the most favourable among the international students, we will write down the whole process of opening a Blocked Account for you. The Fintiba WebApp will guide you through the process step by step and the account will be opened in your name.

  • You will need to fill out the application form, you need to provide your details and verify your identity by scanning your valid passport. Once the verification process is completed, your block account is opened.
  • Now you need to deposit the required amount of money and this could take up to 5 days for the transaction to be completed.
  • Fintiba will automatically send a confirmation email as soon as your deposit is accepted. Now, your Blocked Account is activated.
  • Now you can print out the confirmation email and arrange an appointment at the German Embassy and submit the printed email to prove your financial resources. And that’s it! Once you arrive in Germany, you need to open a current bank account at any bank and your monthly stipend will be transferred from your Fintiba Blocked Account.

You can find detailed information regarding opening your Blocked Account on the Fintiba website and if you have any questions they offer a free consultation.

Coracle

The third firm is Coracle, which was established in 2016. The company began as a health insurance broker before adding the Blocked Account to its portfolio in 2018.
