POSTGRADUATE: Data Science MSc

Collecting, managing and analysing data is essential across many sectors – from finance to politics, and advertising to healthcare. This course will give you the advanced computation and mathematics skills you’ll need to work in the growing field of data science.

Degree Details

This course combines in-depth study of the theory and practice of data science with an optional year-long work placement, where you’ll get the chance to apply your knowledge to industry-relevant challenges. A placement also allows you to discover the business value of data-oriented research and development.

You’ll acquire solid technical knowledge of data science principles and practices, machine learning and data mining, practical business analytics, database systems and cloud computing. You can also customise this MSc with optional modules in information security, sensors and advanced artificial intelligence.

Finally, you’ll complete a dissertation where you can further explore an area that interests you. Our dissertation projects involve topical real-world problems, often linked into cutting-edge research.

To apply for one of our postgraduate courses that require a UK 2:1, you must achieve a bachelors degree with a GPA of 2.6 or 2.8 out of 4.0 (65 or 70%), depending on the institution at which you studied. If you have studied a two or three-year bachelors degree plus a masters degree, you must achieve a GPA of 2.8 or 3.0 out of 4.0 (70% or 75%), depending on the institution at which you studied.

For courses that require a UK 2:2, you must achieve a bachelors degree with a GPA of 2.4 or 2.6 out of 4.0 (60% or 65%), depending on the institution at which you studied. If you have studied a two or three-year bachelors degree plus a masters degree, you must achieve a GPA of 2.6 or 2.8 out of 4.0 (65% or 70%), depending on the institution at which you studied.

IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in each other component.
