The Core Skills Pathway is the main stream of Australia’s Skills in Demand (SID) visa, which fully replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa on 7 December 2024. Designed for mid-level skilled workers, this pathway targets occupations on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) and is expected to represent over 70% of all SID visas issued.

Unlike the Specialist Skills Pathway (for high earners) or the Essential Skills Pathway (for lower-paid critical roles), the Core Skills Stream includes a wide range of professions — from registered nurses and teachers to electricians, chefs, and construction workers — as long as they meet the income threshold and occupation criteria.
