Columbia University: Overview

Columbia, USA, has been a pioneer in higher learning both domestically and internationally for more than 250 years. It was established in 1754 and is the fifth-oldest university in the United States of America. Columbia University used to be known as King’s College, then it was promoted to the rank of university later on.

In addition to being one of the most significant research institutions in the world, Columbia University offers undergraduate and graduate students a unique and prestigious educational experience in a variety of academic and occupational subjects. Recognizing the value of its New York City location, the university works to connect its research and instruction to the abundant resources of a world-class city. To foster research and teaching on global concerns, to draw a diverse and international faculty, staff, and student body, and to forge intellectual ties with several nations and areas. It anticipates that every department at the university will strive to promote knowledge and learning to the highest possible level and share the results of its work with the rest of the world.

Accomplishments and Alumni

Columbia University is a private elite Ivy League Research University, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The laser, maser, nuclear magnetic vibrations, the first nuclear pile, the first nuclear fission reaction in America, the first evidence for plate tectonics and continental drift, and much of the primary study and organisation for the Manhattan Project during World War II were all achieved by scientists and academics from Columbia. The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and accelerator labs with Big Tech companies like Amazon and IBM are a few instances of the university’s research initiatives. Columbia University was the first institute to reward the MD degree and is an established affiliate of the Association of American Universities. The Pulitzer Prize is also yearly managed by the university.

Seven Founding Fathers of the United States, four U.S. presidents, 33 foreign heads of state, two secretaries-general of the United Nations, and ten justices of the United States Supreme Court, one of whom is presently serving, are among its alumni, faculty, and staff. 100 Nobel Prize winners, 125 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 53 billionaires still alive, 22 Olympic medalists, 33 Oscar Award winners, and 125 Pulitzer Prize winners also belong to Alumni of this university.

Columbia University: Campus

Columbia University: Admission Requirements

The University received 40,203 applications for the most recent academic year, and 2,214 students from 152 different countries were accepted.

WHAT ARE COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?

Even though there are many components to a college application, you should concentrate on only a few crucial ones:

  • GPA specifications.
  • Test requirements, such as those for the SAT and ACT.
  • Application requirement.

GPA Specifications

The GPA requirement at Columbia University is 4.12. You have to be at the top of your class to attend Columbia University. To compete with other applications, you’ll need to receive almost all A’s. You’ll need a better SAT or ACT score to make up for a GPA that is at or below the school average of 4.12 in this case.

SAT/ACT Score Requirement

The SAT or ACT is required in order to apply to Columbia University. But more significantly, you must succeed in order to have a compelling application. The typical composite SAT score is 1440 to 1570 out of a possible 1600. The ACT score on average is 34. With this number, Columbia University is very competitive for ACT scores.

This demonstrates how picky the school is. To get beyond their initial filters and demonstrate your academic readiness, it’s crucial to meet their GPA standards and SAT/ACT requirements. Your chances of being in are almost nonexistent if you don’t live up to their standards.

Once you’ve gotten past this obstacle, you’ll need to wow the Columbia University admissions committee with your extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation.

SAT/ACT Application Requirement

The essay portion of the SAT and ACT is optional. You are required to take the SAT Essay/ACT Writing part to apply to Columbia University. They’ll evaluate this in addition to other factors while making an admissions decision.

English Language Requirement

You must be at ease speaking English quickly and idiomatically in order to be taken into consideration for admission to Columbia. There are various ways to show on your application that you are an English language expert:

  • TOEFL (minimum score 105)
