Core Requirements — Student Visa Australia 2026

Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

A valid CoE from a CRICOS-registered provider is mandatory. Your institution issues this after you accept your offer and pay any required deposit.

Genuine Student Requirement (GSR)

Replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement from 23 March 2024. Applicants must demonstrate genuine intent to study and comply with visa conditions. (See Page 5 for full detail.)

English Language Proficiency

IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Cambridge scores meeting institution and Department thresholds. Requirements vary by course and institution.

Financial Capacity

Evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition, living costs (approx. AUD $29,710/year for a single adult in 2024–25), and return travel.

Health & Character

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is required for the visa duration. Police clearances may be required for certain nationalities.

Compulsory from the date of visa commencement. Must be maintained for the full duration of your visa.
